Goods damaged during interstate transit — who files the claim?
The situation
A shipment of machinery parts from Mumbai to Chennai was damaged during transit. The buyer in Chennai discovered the damage upon unpacking. Neither the buyer nor seller was sure who should file the insurance claim — the sender who shipped it, or the receiver who owned the goods.
How we helped
We clarified: the policy holder (usually the one who arranged the marine cargo insurance) files the claim. We helped identify the policy, gather transit documents (lorry receipt, packing list, invoice), documented the damage with photos on arrival, and filed the claim with proper proof of transit damage vs pre-existing damage.
